Heritage Statement
About the Project
The owners of High Street in Cricklade, Wiltshire, commissioned Avalon Heritage to undertake a Heritage Statement to inform on the impacts of the demolition and rebuild of some old barns. The property is in the Cricklade Conservation area and interestingly the house has the river Thames running through the garden. When we think of the river Thames we envisage a great expanse of water bordered by high-rise buildings and busy shipping activities, however, nothing could be further from this picture in the village of Cricklade in Wiltshire. The river narrows to a gentle flow with the banks abundant with foliage, flowers and mature shrubs which forms a truly idyllic location. There are however interesting hints of past industrial activities which included coffin making and wheelwright activities.
