Market Place, Leek
About the Project
Avalon Heritage Ltd were commissioned by L C Construction to carry out an archaeological watching brief during consented works at the Land behind 14 Market Place, Leek, in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The site is located in the Leek town centre. It is bordered on its northern end by 14 Market Place which fronts onto Derby Street. To its south it is bordered by car parks and a shopping centre and on its western and eastern sides there are established residences.
As the site was located within the historic medieval core of Leek, the potential for archaeological remains to be found was considered high. The site yielded medieval and 18th century pottery.
