Archaeological Watching Brief
About the Project
Avalon Heritage were commissioned by the Parochial Church Council of All Saints Church, Chebsey in Staffordshire to provide an archaeological watching brief during groundworks to install an accessible lavatory in the space currently used as the Vestry. The church is listed at grade 1 for its architectural interest and retention of original Norman fabric in nave and chancel.
The watching brief was required because the site is considered to be of potential archaeological interest. During the groundworks for the drainage system disarticulated and articulated human remains were found. By close management with the diocese, architect and local planning authority, Avalon Heritage were able to progress the works with no delays or additional costs to the client.
